This week's post will be somewhat shortened to make it easier and quicker to read.
Monday: Fairly uneventful. I ran 1 mile fairly quick (it felt) but walk/jogged the mile back. The smoke from fires on the coast made a little difficult to run outside. I did experience a little runner's rage, as I like to call it. As I was running down the sidewalk, I saw a car driving up from a sidestreet. I knew that if he stopped properly at the stop sign, I would not have to stop my run. However, he started doing a "California Stop", meaning he slowed down but never came to a stop. However, the car did finally stop when he saw that I was not. It may be immature or "jerkish" but when I ran past the car, I slapped my hand down on the hood, gently. No marks, dents, or scratches left. Afterward, I thought in the back of my mind that may not have been a good idea. That is a trait of mine that I have recognized that I need to work on; especially before BCT. If not, I am pretty sure it will be there.
Tuesday: Did my usual 0700 personal training session. This consisted of her doing mostly chest exercises. She then had me doing some full body sit-ups. Those are always fun, but have gotten a lot easier. I stopped by the office where I am still doing a little business, and then went downtown to a UCF Alumni Community Volunteers meeting. This is a group that I have been working with for about a year and half. It has been very rewarding and recommend that any fellow UCF Alumni partake in helping out.
Wednesday: Uneventful for the most part except until FS PT. We had the pleasure of having SSG Lime hosting PT today. I think he tried to tear us down less today and had us doing some battle buddy exercises. This involved partnering with someone and doing basic exercises like push ups and sit-ups. The push ups were similar to the video below, but with only two people. These guys had some communication issues though.
Thursday: Was a lot of fun. I got a chance to go golfing with a friend of mine in the Army. I did not take any pictures because I try to do my best not to bring the phone out when I am golfing. I wish my wife understood that sometimes. I am not a great golfer, if I could even be described as one. I have never had any lessons really, just youtube really. I shot a 92 though.
After golfing, I got to the recruiter's office for FS PT. We had a change up this week with SGT Carolina being out of town. One of the new recruiters ran the show. I will call him SSG Capcom. I will explain in a little bit. SSG Capcom is a pretty funny guy and fairly personable unlike some of the other recruiters in the office. He has a similar MOS as I do, which is 25U, which is Signal Support Systems Specialist. That MOS is basically a jack of all MOSs of the Signal Corps. Anyways, rather than trying to tear us down, SSG Capcom did some basic stuff, and then some motivators. I have posted before what those are in a previous post. He then had us some lunges and another exercise he calls Ryus, as in Ryu from Street Fighter. This is a hybrid of lunges and a jump. The he deomonstrated it for us by basically doing one of Ryu's signature moves. What made it more entertaining was that he made the war cry or yell that Ryu does in the game. I have to say he did a good job. To refresh your memory here is a clip of the sound.
After doing some street fighting, he introduced a new form of exercises that was hybrid of mixed martial arts. The first exercise was fairly interesting to see everyone try to do. This involved us getting into the guard position:
After a lot of uncomfortable response to this position and SSG Capcom telling us "it ain't gay people, not unless you look into their eyes for longer than 2 seconds" had use pick the person up similar to this:
However, we picked the person up. After getting them up, the person did 5 sit-ups. After that exercise, he had us get back into the guard position but do a bear crawl. Needless to say, after that day, I was extremely dirty.
Friday, Saturday, and Sunday: Friday involved me doing my usual 0700 personal training. Nothing special except the usual butt kicking. She had me do a lot of the bench step ups; always fun. Later that night I met up with my brother-in-law at Firkin and Kegler for a work social he put together. It was fairly low key but fun to hang out and catch up with him.
Saturday was a lot of fun in the evening. As mentioned previously, a friend of mine and I won some prizes at a volunteer event the week before. Well he won tickets to go and see Apocalytica. He took me along! If you do not know who that is, you are missing out! This rock band from Finland only uses cellos and a set of drums. Here is a video to one of the songs that they have taken from Metallica but played with cellos:
Sunday involved me going to mass and then meeting up with a friend and group of his friends for some low budget flag football. I call it low budget because we used tube socks. I actually got some t-shirt strips. I never really played a lot of football, so I really did not know exactly what I was doing for the first couple of plays. However, once I understood what I needed to do, I made a few decent plays. I even got a few sacks in too!
I am the only one with sunglasses in the back. |
As I write this, I am sore all over!
